Last minute winner stuns Lichfield

A last-minute shot thundered home by Renal Davis-Lawrence made sure that Boldmere St Michaels progressed to the next round of the FA Cup with a 3-2 win over Lichfield City.

Lichfield deservedly took the lead on the half-hour when a corner was swung in and expertly headed home by Jack Edwards In his Third season for the club.

Against the run of play, a cross was fired into local man Owen Parry in the 55th minute, who fired The Mikes back into the game.

It was not level for long when Boldmere goalkeeper Daniel Moore gifted City a penalty on the three-quarter mark by bringing a player down in the box. Up stepped Edwards to score his second of the game and restore Lichfield’s lead.

The Mikes equalised for the second time when miscommunication between James Beeson and a defender allowed Matt Funge to score the most straightforward goal of his career.

At the death, Boldmere turned the tie on its head when Renal Davis-Lawrence struck home to put Boldmere into the next round.

The action started right from the off as Joe Haines struck a cross for Lichfield that landed on the roof of the net.

Lichfield blew another chance at 0-0 when a cross reached Dom Lewis, who could only head over the bar.

The away side started the second half with fire in their belly and went close when Dan Smith headed a shot just wide of the near post.

It was almost three when Liam Kirton was set free in the box, with ten minutes left, only for Moore to deny him at the near post and put The Michaels through to the next round, where they will face Chasetown.
