Chasetown Avoid Halloween Curse by Beating Stocksbridge 2-1
Chasetown made the excellent start when in the first minute with their first shot Oli Hayward headed a shot high into the back of the net to give the Scholars a 1-0 lead.
They could have easily extended the lead when six minutes into the game Oli hayward shot straight at the steel’s keeper Ed hall only for him to spill it. Luckily for him he gathered the ball at the second time of asking.
The second half was played at a very slow pace until the 71st minute when substitute Charlie Cope, who had come on for the injured Harrison Foulstone six minutes previously, fired a shot from just outside the box to make the net bulge and to draw Stocksbridge Steelers’ level.
On the 75th minute the town came agonisingly close to taking the lead when they saw a shot thunder off the bar.
The scholars did take the lead however when on the 79th minute another substitute Ben Lund, who had been on the pitch for eight minutes after replacing Liam Kirton, powered the ball home when it came to him in the box, impressing the 204 people in attendance, to make sure the Scholars took all three points after a 2-1 win.
