Tamworth humiliated 6-1 by strong Oxford City

Today in an eerily quiet Marsh lane, Oxford beat the Lambs 6-1.

The first half hour was a very even game.

In the 4th minute Tom Tonks sent in a now familiar long throw for the away side, which was punched away by the keeper. A minute later a replica throw was sent in, but headed over.

In the 31st minute the reds thought that they had taken the lead via a long throw being headed in, but the referee correctly ruled the goal out.

After the disallowed goal the Hoops dominated the game and deservedly took the lead when a throw in was flicked on to Lewis Coyle, who blazed home from a tight angle to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute. City could have doubled their lead a few minutes later when Jas Singh saved a Daniel Matsuzaka shot at the second chance.

Oxford did get another goal before half-time when a shot turned cross found its way to former Oxford United League Two player James Roberts who rifled home.

Just before half time Tamworth had one last chance via Aaron O’Connor’s long range shot bobbling wide.

Oxford were by far the better side in the second half and proved this when on the 55th minute 24 year old Roberts was hauled down. He dusted himself off and aced the penalty into the bottom left corner, inches from the keeper’s gloves.

In the 57th minute Oxford came close again when Reece fleet had a shot tipped wide by Singh.

They did eventually get a fourth goal when in the 61st minute Josh Ashby sent a free kick into the direction of Portsmouth youth player, Harvey Bradbury, who side footed home to make the score 4-0.

It got even worse for the reds when in the 70th minute former Watford employee, Bradbury, was sent away by a long ball to him which he lofted over poor Singh to make the score 5-0.

In the 81st minute Oxford played a free kick into the box that narrowly missed a blue and white head.

The sixth was still to come though when Oxford united youth player, Ashby, struck a shot home in the 83rd minute.

Tamworth did get a consolation goal through substitute Coden Graham’s long range shot, which nestled into the net to make the final score 6-1 Oxford city.
